A record of community service
My Accomplishments
I believe leadership is about more than making promises. It is about showing up, working with people and helping turn good ideas into practical results.
Community involvement.
Practical results.Experience that matters
I’ve always believed in giving back.
I have been fortunate to serve Saugeen Shores through local business organizations, public committees, community celebrations and safety initiatives. Each experience has taught me the value of listening, preparation and working together.
01Council Experience Across Saugeen Shores
First elected to Council in 2014, I went on to serve as Deputy Mayor and represent every ward. That experience gave me a municipality-wide understanding of Southampton, Port Elgin and Saugeen Township—and how Council decisions affect each community.
02Southampton’s 150th Anniversary
I was proud to serve as a member of the Southampton 150th Committee, helping our community celebrate its history, identity and the people who helped shape it.
03Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce
As a Chamber member, I supported local businesses and the people whose hard work helps keep our community strong throughout the year.
04Founding Member of the Southampton BIA
I helped establish the Southampton Business Improvement Area to support local businesses, strengthen the downtown and encourage a vibrant community centre.
05Active Transportation Leadership
As chair of the Active Transportation Committee, I worked to make walking, cycling and everyday travel safer and more accessible across Saugeen Shores.
06A Bicycle-Friendly Community
As chair of the Bicycle Friendly Committee, I helped advance safer cycling and supported Saugeen Shores in becoming a more welcoming place for people travelling by bicycle.
07Committee of Adjustment
As a member of the Committee of Adjustment, I gained practical experience reviewing local planning matters and considering how decisions affect residents and neighbourhoods.
08Police Services Board
As a member of the Police Services Board, I contributed to discussions about public safety, responsible oversight and the needs of our community.
09A Safer School Crossing
I created the first safe school crosswalk in front of Saugeen District Senior School—turning a community safety concern into a practical improvement for students and families.
10Lamont Sports Park — Phase 1
As chairman of the Lamont Sports Park Phase 1 Committee, I helped guide the planning and community work behind an important investment in sports, recreation and the future of Saugeen Shores.
“My record is not just a list of positions. It reflects years of listening, working with others and helping make our community stronger.”
— Don MathesonThere is still more work to do.
I’m ready to bring this experience and practical approach back to Council.
